Khurtey
Khurtey is a small village located in the Bumthang District of central Bhutan. It is situated on the banks of the Chamkhar River. Khurtey is known primarily as the birthplace of Guru Rinpoche (also known as Padmasambhava), a pivotal figure in Tibetan Buddhism, who is believed to have been born sometime in the 8th century. Due to its connection to Guru Rinpoche, Khurtey is a significant pilgrimage site for Buddhists. While a relatively small and remote village, it holds considerable cultural and religious importance within Bhutan and the broader Buddhist world. Khurtey is characterized by its rural setting and traditional Bhutanese architecture.
