Kempo (era)
Kempo (建保) was a Japanese era name (年号, nengō, literally "year name") after Ken'ei and before Jōkyū. This period spanned from December 1213 to April 1219. The reigning emperor was Emperor Juntoku (順徳天皇).
Overview
The nengō was declared to mark the enthronement of Emperor Juntoku. Important figures during this era include the shōgun Minamoto no Sanetomo and the shikken Hōjō Yoshitoki. The era is situated within the Kamakura period of Japanese history. Significant events included continued attempts by the Imperial Court to exert its influence against the power of the Kamakura shogunate.
