Karimata (band)
Karimata was an Indonesian jazz fusion band, known for its complex arrangements and instrumental prowess. Formed in the early 1980s, the group consisted of Erwin Gutawa (keyboards), Addie MS (keyboards), Ule (guitar), Budhy Haryono (drums), and various bass players throughout their career.
Karimata's music blended traditional Indonesian sounds with contemporary jazz and rock influences, creating a unique and innovative style. They released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Pasti" (1985), "Antara Aku, Kau dan Dia" (1986), "IMAJI" (1987), and "Jakarta" (1994).
The band was highly influential in the Indonesian music scene, pushing the boundaries of popular music and inspiring a new generation of musicians. They were known for their sophisticated compositions, intricate improvisations, and tight ensemble playing.
After a period of inactivity, Karimata reunited in the 2000s for occasional performances and collaborations. Their legacy continues to inspire Indonesian jazz and fusion musicians to this day. Addie MS and Erwin Gutawa have also enjoyed successful solo careers as composers, arrangers and conductors.
