Juvenal (footballer, born November 1923)
Juvenal Amarijo, simply known as Juvenal, (born November 27, 1923, in Santa Vitória do Palmar, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; died October 30, 2009, in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian footballer who played as a defender.
He is best known for his time with Flamengo and Palmeiras, two of Brazil's most popular clubs. Juvenal played a significant role in Flamengo's successes during the 1950s, contributing to multiple state championships. After leaving Flamengo, he joined Palmeiras, where he continued his career.
Juvenal also represented the Brazilian national team, participating in the 1950 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil. Though the team suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the final against Uruguay, Juvenal was part of the squad that reached the decisive match. His international career was relatively brief, but his participation in the World Cup marked a high point.
He was regarded as a reliable and experienced defender during his playing career. Following his retirement from professional football, Juvenal maintained a low profile. His death in 2009 went largely unnoticed, highlighting the often-ephemeral nature of fame in football history.
