John Stead (bishop)

John Stead (died 14 July 1406) was a medieval English Bishop of Carlisle.

Stead was likely a clerk in the royal chancery before his elevation to the episcopate. He was nominated to the see of Carlisle on 16 February 1395 and consecrated on 8 May 1395.

During his tenure as bishop, Stead was involved in various administrative and diplomatic matters. He was frequently summoned to Parliament and served on royal commissions.

Stead died on 14 July 1406. He was buried in Carlisle Cathedral. His episcopate was largely unremarkable, lacking significant events or controversies.
