John Bond (footballer)

John Bond (born 6 December 1932 in Dedham, Essex; died 26 September 2012) was an English football player and manager.

As a player, Bond was a right-back, most notably spending his playing career at West Ham United from 1953 to 1969. During his time with West Ham, he made 444 league appearances, and captained the team to FA Cup victory in 1964 and European Cup Winners' Cup victory in 1965.

Following his playing career, Bond transitioned into management. He had successful spells managing Bournemouth, where he gained promotion to the Third Division, and Norwich City, guiding them to the First Division. He also managed Manchester City, Swansea City, and Shrewsbury Town.

Bond's managerial career was characterized by a direct and often outspoken approach. While he achieved notable success at several clubs, his time at Manchester City was more turbulent. He is remembered as a characterful and influential figure in English football management during the 1970s and 1980s.
