John 20:5

John 20:5 describes the apostle John (referred to here as "the other disciple" who is not named) arriving at the tomb of Jesus after hearing Mary Magdalene's report that the stone had been removed. The verse states, "And he, stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in."

This verse is significant because it provides a detail about the initial observation of the empty tomb. John's action of stooping down and looking inside, seeing the linen cloths, indicates a sense of caution and perhaps confusion. The detail of the linen clothes lying there is a key element contributing to the evidence and mystery surrounding the resurrection narrative. He did not enter the tomb at that point, an action that differentiates him from Peter who subsequently entered.
