Joey Jones (American football)
Joey Jones is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head football coach at Davidson High School in Mobile, Alabama.
Prior to Davidson, Jones served as the head football coach at the University of South Alabama from 2008 to 2017, where he founded the program. He led the Jaguars from their inception as a startup program, through their transition to NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) competition. During his tenure at South Alabama, he compiled a record of 52-51. He oversaw the team's transition from a program playing only junior college and developmental teams, to full FBS membership.
Before South Alabama, Jones was a highly successful high school coach in Alabama, coaching at various schools including Davidson High School (prior to his return), where he won a state championship in 2003. His high school coaching career included numerous playoff appearances and a reputation for developing talented players.
Jones is known for his offensive coaching philosophy and his ability to build football programs from the ground up. His commitment to the state of Alabama and its football culture has been a defining characteristic of his career.
