Ion Jalea
Ion Jalea (1887-1983) was a Romanian sculptor, known for his realistic and monumental style. He was a professor at the Bucharest Academy of Fine Arts and a member of the Romanian Academy.
Jalea's works often depicted historical figures, allegorical subjects, and portraits. He is particularly well-known for his equestrian statues, including the statue of Michael the Brave in Alba Iulia and the statue of King Carol I in Bucharest. His sculptures are characterized by their attention to detail and their powerful, expressive forms.
Jalea studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Bucharest under Dimitrie Paciurea and later in Paris. He was influenced by Auguste Rodin and other modern sculptors, but developed his own distinctive style. He received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, solidifying his position as one of Romania's most important sculptors of the 20th century.
