Ignorance (Sacred Reich album)
Ignorance is the debut studio album by the American thrash metal band Sacred Reich, released on October 13, 1987, through Metal Blade Records. The album is considered a landmark release in the thrash metal genre, noted for its socially conscious lyrics addressing themes of political corruption, social injustice, and, as the title suggests, ignorance.
Ignorance established Sacred Reich as a prominent force in the burgeoning thrash metal scene of the late 1980s. The album's sound is characterized by fast tempos, aggressive riffs, and politically charged vocals from frontman Phil Rind. Notable tracks include "Death Squad," "Victim of Demise," and "Administrative Decisions."
The album received positive reviews upon its release and has continued to be praised for its raw energy and insightful commentary. Ignorance is often credited with influencing a generation of metal bands and remains a significant work in Sacred Reich's discography. The lyrical content of the album, focusing on societal problems, distinguished Sacred Reich from many of their thrash metal contemporaries who often leaned towards fantasy or horror themes. The album artwork depicts a hooded figure representing ignorance, further emphasizing the central theme of the record.
