Harry Rigby (producer)
Harry Rigby (1925 – 1985) was an American theatrical producer best known for reviving classic musicals on Broadway. His productions were often characterized by opulent costumes, elaborate sets, and a nostalgic appeal to older audiences.
Rigby’s most successful productions included a 1971 revival of No, No, Nanette, which became a surprise hit and helped usher in a wave of revivals of vintage musicals. Other notable revivals produced by Rigby included Irene (1973), starring Debbie Reynolds, and Good News (1974).
While his revivals were commercially successful, they were sometimes criticized for being overly simplistic and lacking in artistic merit. He was seen by some critics as prioritizing spectacle over substance. Despite the critical reservations, Rigby's work played a significant role in introducing a new generation to classic Broadway musicals and in revitalizing the careers of many performers.
His career experienced a downturn in later years, and he faced financial difficulties. Rigby died in 1985.
