Harris Theater (Chicago)

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance, often shortened to Harris Theater, is a 1,499-seat performance venue located in downtown Chicago, Illinois, at 205 East Randolph Street in Millennium Park. It serves as a shared performance space for numerous Chicago-based performing arts organizations, particularly those in the fields of music and dance, allowing them access to a prominent and well-equipped venue without the significant overhead costs of owning and maintaining their own theater.

The theater's construction was completed in 2003 and was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. It is named for Joan W. and Irving B. Harris, philanthropists who were major benefactors of the project. The Harris Theater's mission is to support and present diverse and exciting performances, enriching the cultural landscape of Chicago.

The Harris Theater does not have a resident company. Instead, it operates on a presenting model, hosting a variety of local and international arts organizations. Some of the organizations that regularly perform at the Harris Theater include the Chicago Opera Theater, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Music of the Baroque, and the Joffrey Ballet. It also presents touring ensembles and individual artists.

The Theater is known for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting, providing a high-quality experience for both performers and audience members. Its central location within Millennium Park makes it easily accessible and a significant cultural destination within the city.
