HMS Chichester (1753)
HMS Chichester was a 70-gun third-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched in 1753. She was built at Deptford Dockyard to the 1745 Establishment, and served during the Seven Years' War and the American Revolutionary War.
During the Seven Years' War, Chichester participated in several notable actions. She was present at the Battle of Lagos in 1759, where she played a role in the British victory against the French fleet. The ship also saw service in the West Indies.
In the American Revolutionary War, Chichester served primarily in North American waters. She was part of the fleet involved in various operations against American and French forces.
By the late 1770s, Chichester was showing signs of wear and tear after many years of service. She was eventually decommissioned and broken up in 1781. Her career spanned a period of significant naval conflict, and she participated in key events that shaped British maritime power.
