Greniodon

Greniodon is a genus of extinct shark-toothed toothed birds (Odontornithes) known from fragmentary fossil remains. These fossils have primarily been discovered in Cretaceous period deposits. While the exact phylogenetic position of Greniodon within Odontornithes remains somewhat debated due to the limited fossil evidence, it is considered a member of the Ichthyornithiformes, the order that also includes the well-known Ichthyornis. Key diagnostic features that differentiate Greniodon from other odontornithiforms are primarily based on characteristics of the teeth and jaw fragments, although these features are often subtle and require expert paleontological analysis. The genus is important in understanding the evolutionary radiation of toothed birds during the Late Cretaceous.
