George Johnston (footballer, born 1947)
George Johnston (born 1947) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a left back.
Johnston began his career with Dundee, making his debut in the Scottish League in 1966. He remained with Dundee until 1972, during which time he established himself as a regular in the first team. Known for his tenacious tackling and consistent performances, he was a popular figure with the Dundee supporters.
In 1972, Johnston transferred to Coventry City in England. He spent four seasons with the Sky Blues, making numerous appearances in the First Division. He was a reliable presence in the Coventry defence.
After leaving Coventry City in 1976, Johnston joined Derby County. He continued to play in the First Division for Derby.
Following his spell at Derby, Johnston had a brief period with Birmingham City before retiring from professional football.
Throughout his career, Johnston was known as a hard-working and dependable defender. While he did not achieve international honours, he enjoyed a long and successful career in both Scotland and England.
