Gan (Laamu Atoll)

Gan is an island located in the Laamu Atoll of the Maldives. It is one of the largest islands in the atoll and in the entire country. Historically, Gan served as a British Royal Air Force (RAF) base during World War II and the Cold War. The presence of the RAF significantly influenced the island's infrastructure and culture.

Following the departure of the RAF, Gan was converted into a resort island, offering tourism and related services. The island's unique history and size distinguish it from many other resort islands in the Maldives.

Gan is connected to the neighboring islands of Kaddhoo and Fonadhoo via causeways. Kaddhoo is home to a domestic airport, providing convenient access to Gan from the capital city, Malé, and other parts of the Maldives. This interconnectedness makes Gan a relatively accessible destination within the archipelago. The causeway system is significant because it enables easy transportation between these islands, supporting local economies and tourism.
