Flood (Stella Donnelly album)
Flood is the second studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Stella Donnelly, released on August 26, 2022, through Secretly Canadian. The album explores themes of personal growth, resilience, and navigating the complexities of adulthood following the release of her debut album, Beware of the Dogs.
Donnelly wrote Flood over a period of reflection and introspection, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns in Australia. The album's title refers to the feeling of being overwhelmed by life's challenges and the importance of finding ways to cope and move forward. Sonically, Flood builds upon the indie pop and folk sensibilities of Donnelly's previous work, incorporating elements of art rock and experimental sounds. It features contributions from musicians Jennifer Aslett, Jack Ridley, and Marcel Borbón.
The album was preceded by the singles "Lungs," "How Was Your Day?," and "Flood." Flood received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Donnelly's songwriting, vulnerability, and willingness to experiment with new sounds. The album was nominated for the Australian Music Prize.
