Eliica
The Eliica (Electric Lithium-Ion Car) is an eight-wheeled electric vehicle prototype developed by a team led by Professor Hiroshi Shimizu at Keio University in Japan. The project aimed to create a high-performance electric car utilizing advanced technology.
The Eliica's key features include its use of lithium-ion batteries, distributed electric motors within each wheel, and an aerodynamic design intended to achieve high speeds and energy efficiency. The eight-wheel configuration was implemented to improve road grip and stability, particularly at high velocities.
While primarily a research project and prototype, the Eliica garnered significant attention for its innovative engineering and potential as a showcase for future electric vehicle technology. Several versions of the Eliica were produced, demonstrating variations in design and performance characteristics. The project also served as a platform for developing and testing advanced battery technology and electric motor control systems.
The Eliica project, while not resulting in a commercially produced vehicle, contributed valuable insights and advancements to the field of electric vehicle development, influencing subsequent research and development efforts in electric mobility.
