El Cogul

El Cogul is a municipality located in the province of Lleida, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. It is primarily known for the rock art found in the Roca dels Moros (Rock of the Moors) cave. This cave contains a significant collection of prehistoric paintings dating back to the Epipaleolithic and Neolithic periods.

The Roca dels Moros at El Cogul is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, included as part of the larger "Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula" designation. The paintings depict scenes of human figures, animals (such as deer, bulls, and goats), and other symbolic representations. They are considered to be a crucial resource for understanding the beliefs, rituals, and daily lives of prehistoric peoples in the region.
