Dibatag

The dibatag (Ammodorcas clarkei), also known as Clarke's gazelle, is a medium-sized antelope endemic to Somalia and Ethiopia. It is a member of the family Bovidae, and the sole member of the genus Ammodorcas. The dibatag is characterized by its long, slender neck, long legs, and a distinctive reddish-brown pelage. The underside, rump, and the insides of the legs are white. Only the males possess horns, which are slender, lyre-shaped, and curve backward.

The dibatag is primarily a browser, feeding on leaves, shoots, and fruits of various shrubs and trees. It is well-adapted to arid environments and can survive for extended periods without access to free water, obtaining moisture from its diet.

Dibatags are typically found in semi-desert and arid grasslands. They are shy and elusive animals, often found in pairs or small family groups. Their conservation status is currently listed as Vulnerable due to habitat loss, hunting, and competition with livestock. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their habitat and reduce threats to their population. The name "dibatag" comes from the Somali words "daba tag," which means "tail up," referring to the animal's habit of raising its tail to expose its white rump when alarmed.
