Derrick Coleman (American football)
Derrick Coleman (born October 18, 1990) is an American football fullback who most recently played for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at UCLA.
Coleman is notable for being the first legally deaf offensive player in the NFL. He lost his hearing at the age of three due to genetic sensorineural hearing loss. Despite his hearing impairment, Coleman excelled at football, overcoming obstacles to reach the professional level. He relies on hearing aids to amplify sounds and lip-reading to communicate effectively.
Coleman was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He has also played for the Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals. With the Seahawks, he won Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos.
Throughout his NFL career, Coleman has been an advocate for people with disabilities, inspiring others to pursue their dreams regardless of challenges. He has also been involved in community outreach programs, raising awareness about hearing loss and promoting inclusivity.
