Clambake (film)
Clambake is a 1967 American musical film starring Elvis Presley, Shelley Fabares, and Will Hutchins. Released by United Artists, it follows the story of Scott Heyward (Presley), the son of an oil tycoon, who swaps identities with a water ski instructor, Tom Wilson (Hutchins), to see if he can find genuine love and success without relying on his father's wealth.
The plot revolves around Scott's efforts to win the affections of Dianne Carter (Fabares), a gold-digging young woman, while working as a water ski instructor and competing in a powerboat race. He also tries to prove himself by developing a new type of protective coating for boats.
The film features several musical numbers performed by Elvis Presley, including "Clambake," "Who Needs Money?," "A World of Our Own," "Confidence," "Hey, Hey, Hey," and "You Don't Know Me." The soundtrack album, also titled Clambake, was released to coincide with the film's release.
Clambake was not one of Presley's more critically acclaimed films and is generally considered a formulaic entry in his filmography. It was a moderate financial success, but it is not typically ranked among his most memorable or popular movies.
