Cheonma-2

The Cheonma-2 is a North Korean main battle tank (MBT). It is believed to be an upgraded version of the Cheonma-1, which itself was based on the Soviet T-62. The Cheonma-2 incorporates various improvements, although precise details about its specifications and capabilities are limited due to a lack of open-source intelligence and North Korea's general secrecy.

Reported upgrades include improved armor protection, potentially through the addition of composite armor or explosive reactive armor (ERA). Fire control systems are also believed to be enhanced, possibly including a laser rangefinder and thermal imaging sights, improving accuracy and night-fighting capabilities.

The main armament is typically a 115mm smoothbore gun, similar to that found on the T-62. However, some reports suggest the possibility of a 125mm gun being incorporated in later variants. Secondary armament usually includes a coaxial machine gun and an anti-aircraft heavy machine gun.

The Cheonma-2 is thought to be a mainstay of the Korean People's Army's armored forces, and serves as an attempt to modernize its tank fleet. However, it is still considered to be technologically inferior to more modern MBTs employed by other nations. Information on production numbers and deployment is scarce.
