Alhambra Theatre (El Paso, Texas)
The Alhambra Theatre was a historic movie palace located in El Paso, Texas. Opened in 1914, it was one of the earliest and most opulent movie theaters in the city. Designed in a Spanish Colonial Revival style, the Alhambra featured an elaborate facade, a grand lobby, and a large auditorium capable of seating several hundred patrons.
The theater primarily screened silent films and early talkies during its initial years. It served as a significant entertainment venue for the El Paso community, hosting various live performances in addition to film screenings. Over time, as other, more modern theaters were built in the city, the Alhambra began to decline in popularity.
The Alhambra Theatre was demolished in the late 1950s or early 1960s to make way for new development. No known remnants of the original building remain. The location was a significant landmark in El Paso’s history and its demolition marked a loss for the city's architectural heritage.
