Alan Eyre

Alan Eyre (1921-2001) was a British linguist, translator, and Hispanist known primarily for his contributions to Spanish language pedagogy and his widely used textbook, Teaching Spanish Grammar.

Eyre served in the British Army during World War II. After the war, he dedicated his career to the study and teaching of Spanish language and literature. He held positions at various institutions, including the University of Nottingham.

His Teaching Spanish Grammar became a standard text for learners of Spanish. Its strength lies in its clear, concise explanations and practical exercises. The book has gone through numerous editions and remains a popular resource for both students and teachers of Spanish.

Beyond grammar, Eyre also contributed to Spanish lexicography and translation. His work focused on making Spanish language and culture accessible to English-speaking learners.
