A. M. Sullivan (barrister)
Alexander Martin Sullivan (1871-1959), commonly known as A. M. Sullivan, was an Irish barrister, politician, and author. He was a prominent figure in Irish nationalism and legal circles during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Sullivan was born in Dublin and educated at Clongowes Wood College and University College Dublin. He was called to the Irish Bar and became a successful barrister, specializing in criminal law.
Politically, Sullivan was a supporter of Home Rule for Ireland. He was a member of the Irish Parliamentary Party and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for South Donegal from 1906 to 1910. Following the Easter Rising in 1916, he became increasingly involved in the movement for Irish independence.
After Irish independence, Sullivan served as a judge in the Irish Free State and later in the Republic of Ireland. He also held the position of Attorney General of Ireland.
Sullivan was also a prolific writer, publishing several books on legal and historical subjects, including "Old Ireland" and "The Story of Ireland." He is remembered for his contributions to Irish law, politics, and literature.
