751 Squadron (Portugal)

751 Squadron, also known as Esquadra 751, is a search and rescue (SAR) squadron of the Portuguese Air Force (Força Aérea Portuguesa). It is responsible for providing SAR coverage over the Atlantic Ocean, particularly around the Azores archipelago, as well as mainland Portugal. The squadron operates primarily with AgustaWestland EH-101 Merlin helicopters, configured for long-range SAR missions. These helicopters are equipped with advanced radar, communications equipment, and medical facilities. 751 Squadron frequently collaborates with other Portuguese agencies, such as the Portuguese Navy and the National Maritime Authority, in coordinating SAR operations. The squadron also provides medical evacuation services and supports humanitarian relief efforts. Its primary operating base is at Air Base No. 6 (BA6) Montijo, near Lisbon.
