23rd Landwehr Division (German Empire)

The 23rd Landwehr Division was a reserve infantry division of the Royal Prussian Army during World War I. Landwehr divisions were composed of older reservists and were generally considered less effective than regular army divisions. They were typically used in quieter sectors of the front or for occupation duties.

The division was formed in August 1914 as part of the initial mobilization at the outbreak of World War I. It was primarily composed of men from the Prussian province of Silesia and the Prussian Province of Posen.

The 23rd Landwehr Division saw service primarily on the Eastern Front, participating in the battles in Poland and Russia. It was later transferred to the Western Front where it participated in trench warfare. It was involved in fighting in the Champagne region and other sectors.

After the Armistice in November 1918, the division demobilized and was dissolved. Like other units of the Imperial German Army, it was not reformed in the postwar Reichswehr.
