Zoltán Ivansuc

Zoltán “Zoli” Ivansuc (12 August 1938 – 27 January 1982) was a Romanian footballer who played mainly as a forward. Born in Reșița, Romania, he began his youth career with Electromotor Timișoara (1952‑1955) before moving into senior football.

Club career
Ivansuc’s senior debut came with CSM Reșița (1957–1958). In 1959 he transferred to Universitatea Cluj, where he spent the bulk of his professional career (1959‑1968), making 185 league appearances and scoring 41 goals. He helped the club achieve two fourth‑place finishes in the Romanian top division (Divizia A) during the 1960‑61 and 1962‑63 seasons, and recorded a personal best of nine goals in the 1966‑67 campaign. Ivansuc played a pivotal role in Universitatea Cluj’s victory in the 1965 Cupa României, scoring a decisive free‑kick in the 2–1 final win over Dinamo Pitești.

Following domestic success, he featured in the 1965‑66 European Cup Winners’ Cup. Ivansuc scored in both legs of the first‑round 3‑0 aggregate victory against Austria’s Wiener Neustadt before the team was eliminated by Atlético Madrid in the subsequent round. During this period, a representative of Real Madrid reportedly approached him with an offer to remain in Spain; Ivansuc declined, opting to stay with his Romanian club.

He concluded his playing career after a brief stint with IS Câmpia Turzii (1968‑1969), retiring from professional football at age 31.

International career
Ivansuc earned three caps for the senior Romania national team in 1962. He also represented Romania’s U23 side (1959‑1961) and the Romania B team (1961).

Personal life and legacy
Ivansuc passed away on 27 January 1982 in Cluj-Napoca, aged 43. Remembered for his technical ability, powerful shooting, and loyalty to Universitatea Cluj, he remains a celebrated figure among the club’s supporters.
