Zhangping (simplified Chinese: 漳平; traditional Chinese: 漳平; pinyin: Zhāngpíng) is a county-level city in the southwestern part of Fujian province, China. It is under the administration of Longyan City. Located in the mountainous interior of Fujian, Zhangping is known for its agricultural products, particularly tea, and its natural landscapes.
Geography and Climate
Zhangping is situated in the central part of Fujian province, bordered by Anxi County to the east, Yongchun County and Dehua County to the northeast, Datian County to the north, Yong'an City to the west, and Longyan's Xinluo District and Nanjing County to the south. The terrain is predominantly mountainous and hilly, with the Min River's downstream tributaries flowing through the area. The city experiences a subtropical monsoon climate, characterized by mild winters, hot and humid summers, and abundant rainfall, which is conducive to agriculture.
Administration
As a county-level city, Zhangping is governed by the municipal government of Longyan. It comprises several towns (镇, zhèn) and townships (乡, xiāng). The administrative center is located in the Beinan Subdistrict.
Economy
Zhangping's economy is primarily agricultural, with a significant focus on tea production. It is particularly renowned for Zhangping Shui Xian (漳平水仙), a distinct variety of Oolong tea that is unique for being pressed into square cakes. Other agricultural products include rice, fruits, and timber. Light industry and some manufacturing also contribute to the local economy. History
Zhangping has a history dating back to ancient times, though its administrative status and boundaries have changed over the centuries. It was formally established as a county during the Song Dynasty. In recent decades, it was upgraded from a county to a county-level city.
