Zernograd (Russian: Зерногра́д, literally “Grain town”) is a town in Rostov Oblast, Russia, serving as the administrative centre of Zernogradsky District.

Located 71 km (44 mi) southeast of the oblast’s capital, Rostov‑on‑Don, Zernograd lies on the Rostov–Torgovaya railway line. According to the 2010 Russian Census the town had a population of 26,842; a 2021 estimate placed the number at 24,076, reflecting a decline of about 10 % over the preceding decade. The town operates in the Moscow Time Zone (UTC+3) and uses postal codes 347740–347749 and dialing code +7 86359.
Etymology / Origin
The name derives from the Russian word zerno (“grain”) combined with grad (“town”), highlighting the locality’s historical association with grain production and storage. The settlement was originally founded in 1915 as the railway halt Verblyud (Верблю́д). In 1933 it was renamed Zernovoy and later, upon receiving town status in 1951, it became Zernograd in 1960.
