Zărnești is a commune in Buzău County, Muntenia, Romania. It is composed of five villages: Comisoaia, Fundeni (the commune centre), Pruneni, Vadu Sorești, and Zărnești.
Geography
The commune covers an area of 78.1 km² (30.2 sq mi) and is situated at an average elevation of 178 meters (584 ft) above sea level. The main inhabited areas are located in the western part of the commune, in the valley of the Câlnău River.
Demographics
According to the 2021 Romanian census, the commune had a population of 4,676 inhabitants, a decrease from 5,459 in 2011 and 5,531 in 2002.

Notes
Zărnești, Buzău is distinct from the town of Zărnești in Brașov County, which is a separate urban settlement. Historically, the commune was also known as Fundeni-Zărnești.
