Z Gorres

Zosimo Gorres Jr. (born November 14, 1982) is a former Filipino professional boxer. Known for his aggressive, crowd-pleasing style, Gorres competed primarily in the super flyweight (junior bantamweight) division, though he also fought at bantamweight. He was a prominent figure in Philippine boxing in the 2000s, fighting out of Cebu.

Career: Gorres began his professional career in 2001 and quickly rose through the ranks, accumulating an impressive record. He gained recognition for his tenacious fighting style and power. He held several regional titles, including the WBO Asia Pacific super flyweight title.

Among his most notable fights was his challenging bout against unified super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan on February 2, 2008. Gorres dropped Darchinyan in the first round but ultimately lost the fight by split decision in a highly competitive and brutal contest. Despite the loss, his performance solidified his reputation as a courageous and skilled fighter.

Career-Ending Injury: Tragically, just two weeks after his fight with Darchinyan, Gorres collapsed in his dressing room following a sparring session in Las Vegas on February 17, 2008. The injury left him partially paralyzed and unable to continue his boxing career.

Post-Boxing Life: Following extensive rehabilitation, Gorres made significant progress in his recovery, regaining some mobility and speech. His resilience and the support from the boxing community and his family became an inspirational story. He has since been involved in various initiatives aimed at supporting boxers and promoting health and safety within the sport. His career ended with a professional record of 27 wins (15 by knockout), 3 losses, and 2 draws.
