Yves Arones Dignadice (born December 18, 1964) is a Filipino former professional basketball player who spent fourteen seasons in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), primarily with the San Miguel Beermen.
Early Life and Education
Dignadice was born and raised in Jaro, Iloilo City, Philippines. He attended Iloilo Chinese Commercial High School in Iloilo City and later transferred to West Negros College in Bacolod. He played college basketball for De La Salle University.
Professional Career
Dignadice began his professional career in 1984–1985 with the Northern Consolidated Cement team. He joined the San Miguel Beermen in 1986 and played with them through 1998, before finishing his career with the Barangay Ginebra Kings in 2000. Standing 6 feet 4 inches (1.93 m) and weighing 178 pounds (81 kg), he played primarily as a power forward and center, wearing jersey number 12.
Known for his long arms and quick feet, Dignadice was a versatile defender capable of guarding all five positions. He was a key contributor to the San Miguel Beermen's historic Grand Slam championship run in 1989. Over his career, he won nine PBA championships and was selected as a PBA All-Star three times (1989, 1990, 1993). His jersey number 12 has been retired by the San Miguel Beermen.
National Team Career
Dignadice represented the Philippines in international competition on two occasions. He was a member of the NCC-backed national team that won the gold medal at the 1985 ABC Championship (now FIBA Asia) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He also played for the all-professional Philippine squad that won the silver medal at the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing, China. Additionally, he won a gold medal at the 1985 SEA Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Later Life
After retiring from professional basketball in 2000 at age 36, Dignadice moved to the United States, where he resides in Torrance, California, in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. He remains involved in basketball, coaching and developing young players in the local community.
Personal Life
Dignadice has a daughter named Sophia, who is a basketball player and has been a prospect for the Philippine women's national basketball team (Gilas Women).
