Young the Giant

Young the Giant is an American indie rock band formed in Irvine, California, in 2004. The group originally performed under the name The Jakes before adopting its current name in 2009. The original lineup also included drummer Steve Bowman, who was later replaced by Francois Comtois.
  • Name change and debut (2009–2010): The band changed its name to Young the Giant and signed with Roadrunner Records. Their self‑titled debut EP was released in 2009, followed by the full‑length debut album Young the Giant in 2010. The single “My Body” achieved significant radio airplay and charted on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart.
  • Subsequent releases (2012–present): Their second studio album, Mind over Matter (2014), produced the hit single “Cough Syrup,” which received extensive licensing placements in media. The third album, Home of the Strange (2016), explored themes of identity and belonging. In 2020 the group released American Bollywood, a conceptual album reflecting on American cultural narratives. Their most recent studio effort, Mirror Master (2022), features a blend of synth‑pop influences and continues their evolution toward broader sonic palettes.
