Yagra is a genus of moths within the family Castniidae (commonly known as castniid moths or butterfly-moths). The genus was described by Oiticica and is Neotropical in distribution.
Taxonomy
Yagra belongs to the family Castniidae, which is placed within the superfamily Sesioidea. The genus was revised by Moraes, Duarte, and Miller in 2011 (published in the Journal of Natural History).
Species
The genus contains at least two recognized species:
- Yagra dalmannii (Gray, 1838)
- Yagra fonscolombe (Godart, [1824])
Description and Distribution
Species in this genus are found in the Neotropical region. Yagra fonscolombe is specifically recorded from Brazil. As members of Castniidae, these moths are diurnal and often brightly colored, resembling butterflies in appearance and behavior.
