Yafa'a

Yafa'a (also spelled Yafi'i or Yafei) is a historical and geographic region located in southwestern Yemen. It encompasses a mountainous territory situated northeast of Aden. Historically, Yafa'a was known for its independent tribal structure and fiercely independent inhabitants.

The region is divided into several sub-districts, each controlled by different branches of the Yafa'i tribes. These tribes played a significant role in the history of the region, often resisting outside control.

Yafa'a has a rich cultural heritage, with its own distinct dialect, customs, and traditions. Agriculture, particularly coffee cultivation, has traditionally been a mainstay of the local economy. Due to its strategic location, Yafa'a has been witness to various conflicts and power struggles throughout history. The region’s rugged terrain has also served as a natural barrier, contributing to its history of relative autonomy.
