Xu Anxiang (Chinese: 徐安祥; born April 1956) is a retired lieutenant general (zhong jiang) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). He served as commander of the Guangzhou Military Region Air Force, deputy commander of the Guangzhou Military Region, and later as deputy commander of the Southern Theater Command and deputy commander of the PLAAF.
Personal Details
Xu Anxiang was born in April 1956 in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. He is a member of the Chinese Communist Party and held the rank of Lieutenant General.
Military Career
In 2002, Xu served as commander of the 14th Fighter Division, a unit stationed in the Nanjing War Zone. In 2007, he was the frontline commander for PLAAF fighters deployed to the Sino-Russian joint military exercise Peace Mission 2007, marking the first time PLAAF aircraft entered a foreign country for combat drills. He directed 24 sorties of eight Chinese J-7s and Il-76s during the exercise.
In 2008, while serving as deputy chief of staff of the Nanjing Military Region Air Force, Xu was put in charge of air force units involved in search and rescue operations following the Great Sichuan earthquake. He later became chief of staff of the Nanjing Military Region Air Force.
In 2013, Xu was promoted to commander of the Guangzhou Military Region Air Force and concurrently deputy commander of the Guangzhou Military Region, replacing Zhang Jianping. He was elevated to the rank of lieutenant general on 16 July 2014.
In January 2016, as part of the PLA's military restructuring, he became deputy commander of the newly established Southern Theater Command and commander of the Southern Theater Command Air Force. In December 2017, he was appointed deputy commander of the People's Liberation Army Air Force and became a member of the PLAAF Party Committee Standing Committee. He was also a member of the 19th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. He retired from active service in 2021.
