Wythenshawe and Sale East is a parliamentary constituency in the United Kingdom, represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system.
Constituency Profile The constituency was created for the 1997 general election, largely from parts of the former constituencies of Manchester Wythenshawe and Altrincham and Sale. It is located in Greater Manchester, covering parts of the City of Manchester and the Borough of Trafford.
Boundaries The constituency covers the southern parts of the City of Manchester, including the Wythenshawe area, Baguley, Sharston, and Woodhouse Park. It also extends into the adjacent borough of Trafford, encompassing parts of Sale, specifically the wards of Ashton upon Mersey and Sale Moor. The area is largely residential, with significant social housing alongside more suburban areas. It is well-connected by the Metrolink tram network and major roads, including the M56 and M60 motorways.
Political History Wythenshawe and Sale East has historically been a safe seat for the Labour Party. Since its creation in 1997, it has consistently elected Labour MPs with significant majorities. The Wythenshawe area has a strong industrial heritage and traditionally high Labour support, while the Sale areas are more varied in their political alignment.
