Geography
Wuhou District borders Jinjiang District to the north, Qingyang District to the northeast, Chenghua District to the east, Longquanyi District to the southeast, and Shuangliu District to the southwest. The district lies on the Chengdu Plain, characterized by relatively flat terrain and a subtropical humid climate typical of the Sichuan Basin.
History
The district is named after the historic figure Zhuge Liang (courtesy name Kongming), the Marquis of Wu (武侯), who served as a chancellor and military strategist for the Shu Han state during the Three Kingdoms period (220–280 CE). The area contains the Wuhou Shrine (武侯祠), a temple complex dedicated to Zhuge Liang that was first established in the Tang dynasty (618–907 CE) and later expanded during the Song, Ming, and Qing dynasties. Modern administrative boundaries were formalized in 1990 when Chengdu’s urban districts were reorganized, and Wuhou District was created as an independent municipal district.
Administration
Wuhou District is divided into several subdistricts (街道), including:
- Shiyang Subdistrict
- Hongyin Subdistrict
- Jinniu Subdistrict
- Renmin South Road Subdistrict

Notable economic zones and parks include the Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone and the Chengdu Software Park, which host domestic and multinational enterprises in sectors such as information technology, biotechnology, and aerospace. Commercial retail areas, such as Chunxi Road and the nearby Chengdu IFS (International Finance Square), also contribute significantly to local retail sales and employment.
