Woodburn station is an unstaffed Amtrak intercity rail station located in Woodburn, Oregon, United States. It is situated along the Oregon Electric Railway (OER) line, now part of the Union Pacific Railroad's main line, and serves as a stop for the Amtrak Cascades service.

History

The original Woodburn station was built in 1871 by the Oregon and California Railroad (later Southern Pacific Railroad) as part of the main line connecting Portland to San Francisco. Woodburn became an important agricultural hub in the Willamette Valley, and the station served as a vital point for passenger and freight traffic. Passenger rail service saw various changes and decline in the mid-20th century. Amtrak, formed in 1971, consolidated intercity passenger rail operations. The current station facility, a modern structure, was built around 1996 to replace an older depot, specifically to serve the re-launched Amtrak Cascades service in the Pacific Northwest Corridor.

Services

Woodburn station is served by the Amtrak Cascades, which operates multiple daily round trips between Vancouver, British Columbia, Seattle, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, with some services extending to Eugene, Oregon. The station is a flag stop for some trains, meaning trains only stop if passengers are scheduled to board or alight.

Station Layout and Facilities

The station features a single side platform adjacent to two main tracks. A small, unstaffed shelter provides cover for passengers. Basic amenities include a waiting area and accessible facilities. Parking is available for passengers. Connections to local transit services (Salem Area Mass Transit District - SAMTD) are available nearby.

Future

Ongoing improvements to the Pacific Northwest Corridor aim to increase train speeds and frequency, potentially enhancing service at stations like Woodburn.
