Construction and Development
Groundbreaking for the stadium occurred in the summer of 2003, earlier than originally planned, due to university construction needs that required the former on‑campus baseball site, Stuart Field. The playing surface, dugouts, and backstop were completed for the 2004 season, though lighting and permanent seating were added only after that season. Consequently, the Flyers played only daytime home games in 2004 and used temporary bleachers. Following the 2004 season, permanent seating, batting cages, restrooms, and concession facilities were installed, and the venue was officially dedicated on May 7 2005. The total construction cost was approximately $4 million.
Naming History
From its opening in 2004 until 2011, the venue was called Time Warner Cable Stadium, reflecting a naming agreement with the telecommunications company. On May 6 2011, the field portion was renamed Woerner Field in honor of former Dayton baseball player and donor Larry Woerner.
