Wilton Veras is a Dominican former professional baseball player who competed as a backup third baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) and in several international leagues.
Early life and personal details
Wilton Andrés Veras was born on January 19, 1978, in Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic. He stood 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighed approximately 198 pounds, and both batted and threw right-handed.
Major League Baseball career
Veras made his MLB debut with the Boston Red Sox on July 1, 1999, and played his last MLB game on June 30, 2000. Over his two-season MLB career, he compiled a .262 batting average (74 hits in 282 at-bats), with two home runs, 27 runs batted in (RBI), 35 runs scored, 12 doubles, and two triples across 85 games.
International and minor league career
Following his MLB stint, Veras played extensively in various professional leagues. These included the Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers minor league systems (1995–2003), the New Jersey Jackals of the Northeast/Can-Am leagues, the Mexican League's Dorados de Chihuahua, and the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) in Taiwan with multiple teams: the Macoto Cobras (2005), Chinatrust Whales (2008), and Sinon Bulls (2009–2010).
In the CPBL, Veras recorded a .325 batting average with 26 home runs and 200 RBI. He notably held the CPBL single-season record for hits with 176 in 2009 while playing for the Sinon Bulls. This record was later broken in 2016 by Lamigo Monkeys rookie Wang Po-Jung, who recorded 200 hits.
Across 12 minor league seasons overall, Veras batted .272 with 67 home runs and 570 RBI in 1,163 games.
