William Jackson III (born September 23, 1998) is an American professional football player who plays as a cornerback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Houston, where he earned first‑team All‑American Athletic Conference honors in his senior season.
Early life and education
Jackson was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio. He was a three‑star recruit and committed to the University of Houston to continue his football career.
College career
At Houston (2016–2019), Jackson appeared in 48 games, recording 169 total tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and nine interceptions. As a senior in 2019, he led the team with six interceptions and was named to the All‑American Athletic Conference first team.
Professional career
Pittsburgh Steelers
Jackson entered the 2020 NFL Draft and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round (177th overall). He signed a four‑year rookie contract on July 22, 2020. During his rookie season, he appeared in 13 games (one start), recording 13 total tackles and two passes defended. In 2021, he played in 16 games (nine starts), posting 50 tackles, three interceptions, and 12 passes defended. The 2022 season saw him start 15 of 16 games, accumulating 57 tackles, one interception, and nine passes defended.
Washington Commanders
On March 15, 2023, Jackson was traded to the Washington Commanders in exchange for a 2024 seventh‑round draft pick. He entered the 2023 season competing for a starting cornerback role. As of the end of the 2023 regular season, he has appeared in all 17 games, starting 14, and recorded 68 tackles, two interceptions, and ten passes defended.
