William Baker (British politician)

William Baker (born 27 June 1957) is a British politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Hertfordshire from 2005 to 2024. He is a member of the Conservative Party.

Baker was educated at Bedford Modern School and Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he studied Economics. Before entering politics, he worked in business.

In Parliament, Baker served on a number of select committees, including the Treasury Select Committee. He also held various positions within the Conservative Party, including as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Justice. His parliamentary interests have included economic policy, criminal justice, and education. He is often considered to be on the socially liberal wing of the Conservative party.

During his time as an MP, Baker was involved in various campaigns and initiatives within his constituency. He is known for his work on local transport infrastructure and supporting local businesses.

He chose not to stand for re-election at the 2024 general election.
