Wilhelm Kaipel (born 20 November 1948) is an Austrian former association‑football goalkeeper and football manager.
Early life
Kaipel was born in Riedlingsdorf, Burgenland, Austria.
Playing career
Kaipel began his senior career in 1966 with Wiener Sport‑Club, where he played as a goalkeeper until 1971. He then joined SV Austria Salzburg, remaining with the club from 1971 to 1975. His final playing spell was with SK Vöest Linz from 1975 to 1977. During his career, Kaipel was called up twice to the Austria national team, although he did not earn a senior cap.
Managerial career
After retiring as a player, Kaipel moved into coaching. His managerial appointments include:
- SK Rapid Wien (1988)
- Wiener Sport‑Club (1992–1993, 1995, 2001–2002, 2004, 2006, 2013) – serving multiple terms, including caretaker roles in 1993 and 2013
- VSE St. Pölten (1994)
- SV Oberwart (1995)
- SV Neuberg (2003)
In 1992, Kaipel was voted Austrian Bundesliga Coach of the Year.
Later life
Following his football career, Kaipel worked in the banking sector, holding positions such as branch manager for Raiffeisen Wien and for the Evangelische Kreditgenossenschaft.
