The Wilder-Holton House is a historic building located in Lancaster, Coos County, New Hampshire. Constructed circa 1780, it is historically significant as the first two-story frame house built in Coos County, which was at the time a remote frontier region.
The house was built by Major Jonas Wilder, an early settler of Lancaster. Because of its size and central importance in the early community, the building served multiple functions beyond that of a private residence, including use as a tavern, a local meeting house, and a site for religious services. The "Holton" portion of the name refers to the Holton family, who occupied the house for several generations following the Wilders.
Architecturally, the building is a well-preserved example of 18th-century timber-frame construction. It features a central chimney design typical of the period and region.
The Wilder-Holton House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 1975. It is currently owned and maintained by the Lancaster Historical Society, which operates the site as a museum. The museum houses a collection of regional artifacts, genealogical records, and exhibits detailing the social and industrial history of Lancaster and the surrounding White Mountains area.
