Wiggins, Alabama

Wiggins is an unincorporated community located in Covington County in the U.S. state of Alabama. The community lies within the municipal boundaries of the nearby town of Babbie. Geographically, Wiggins is situated at coordinates 31°18′58″ N, 86°19′43″ W, at an elevation of approximately 315 feet (96 m) above sea level. The area is served by the 334 telephone area code and is identified by the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) feature ID 128940.

History
The community was named after James Wiggins, who was appointed as the first postmaster of the area. A post office bearing the name Wiggins operated from 1880 until its closure in 1904, after which postal services were consolidated with neighboring localities.

Demographics and Administration
As an unincorporated area, Wiggins does not have a separate municipal government and is administratively governed as part of Covington County. Because it is now encompassed by the town limits of Babbie, many services and governance functions are provided through that municipality.
