Wieruszów County (Polish: powiat wieruszowski) is a unit of territorial administration and local government in the Łódź Voivodeship, central Poland. It was established on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms. The administrative seat and largest town in the county is Wieruszów.
Geography and Administration The county covers an area of 576.22 square kilometers. It is located in the southwestern part of the Łódź Voivodeship, bordering the Greater Poland, Opole, and Silesian Voivodeships. It is divided into seven administrative subdivisions called gminas:
- Urban-rural gminas: Wieruszów, Lututów.
- Rural gminas: Bolesławiec, Czastary, Galewice, Łubnice, Sokolniki.
Demographics According to official statistical data from 2019, the population of Wieruszów County is approximately 42,153 residents. The population density is estimated at 73 people per square kilometer.
History and Economy The region has a long history dating back to the Middle Ages, with the town of Wieruszów historically serving as an important point near the border of Greater Poland and Silesia. In the modern era, the county's economy is characterized by a mix of agriculture and industry, particularly in the furniture manufacturing and food processing sectors.
Transport Wieruszów County is intersected by several significant transportation routes, including the S8 expressway, which connects the region to major Polish cities such as Wrocław, Łódź, and Warsaw.
