Whitney Hill Wind Farm

Whitney Hill Wind Farm is an onshore wind power generation facility located in Logan County, Illinois, United States. The project was developed and is managed by Swift Current Energy, a North American renewable energy company.

The facility has a total nameplate capacity of 177 megawatts (MW). It utilizes wind turbine technology provided by GE Renewable Energy, specifically employing a combination of GE 2.82-127 and GE 2.3-116 turbine models. Construction of the project began in 2022, and the farm reached commercial operation in early 2023.

The wind farm is situated on approximately 14,000 acres of private land. It is connected to the regional power grid overseen by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). A significant portion of the electricity generated by the facility is sold under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) to corporate entities, including General Motors.

The project contributes to the local economy of Logan County through property tax payments intended for local taxing districts and schools, as well as through lease payments to participating landowners. During its peak construction phase, the project supported several hundred temporary jobs, while its ongoing operation requires a smaller permanent staff for maintenance and monitoring.
